Want your practice to benefit from partnering with Active Geelong?
Sign up your practice nowIn 2019 the Active Geelong GP Ambassador project saw a network of GP’s from Geelong and the Surf Coast come together with a single purpose – to consider how local doctors can take an active role in the physical activity of their patients. The goal was to determine the most effective strategies to promote physical activity with patients.
Using the expertise of our Movement Makers, the Global Obesity Centre (Deakin University) and, The Western Victoria Primary Health Network, many of our local GP’s were involved in the ground breaking study. This project is another demonstration of the commitment of our medical community to making Geelong Australia’s most active city.
READ THE RESEARCH SUMMARYActive Geelong has developed a GP Clinic walking program “My Clinic Walks”. The aim is to encourage the least active in our community to begin walking in a group led by their own medical clinic
Encouraged and referred in by their GP, the participants begin their walking activity in a safe and supported environment. Beginning as a pilot program amongst 10 GP clinics in 2020, it will build across the district and beyond in the near future.
